When
I joined St. Stephen's College, Delhi ,in 1975 , for a few months , I
was in Rudra South ( O 4 ). On the first floor , before he soon left for
England , was Swapan Dasgupta .
In
England , Swapan organised protest rallies against Emergency in India.
Swapan would send newspaper cuttings to Chandan Mitra. later owner of
Pioneer newspaper ,which letters Chandan read aloud to us -Freshers
-------------
During
1977 elections many political rallies were in and around Maurice Nagar.
AB Vajpayee, Raj Narain and Vijay Laxmi Pandit addressed these.
There were slogans like :-
Hindustan Hamara Hai - Indira Ki Jagir .Nahin
Aandhkaar Mein Ek Prakaash - Jai Prakash Jai Prakash
-------------------------
There were others who opposed Emergency in their own way. Our English ( subsidiary subject ) gave us a passage stating :-
A person was at the DTC bus stop waiting for a long time . Finally a bus arrived. But the Bus did not stop there. The harried commuter discovered why. On the back side of the Bus was a DAVP - Emergency slogan :- " The Nation is on the Move "
There was a dark complexioned fellow Stephanian . A group of his friends would confront him and collectively shout :- " Kaaley Dhandey Ka Mazaa- Kala Muh Aur Kari Sazaa " ( Another of Emergency slogans )
